Our good friends at the English National Opera are to revive Anthony Minghellas Olivier Award-winning Madam Butterfly as a tribute to the life of the remarkable film director, who won great acclaim for his Oscar-laden film The English Patient. Puccinis beautiful music underscores the emotional tale of a Japanese geisha girl and her devoted love for a heartless American naval officer. With its sumptuous sets, stunning costumes and evocative use of Far Eastern theatre traditions, The Sunday Telegraph described the production as the most beautiful show of the year in operatic London. Judith Howarth returns to the role, leading an outstanding cast. More at ENO.org
